Why AppleTV is more important than the iPhone

Apple TVTuesday, all anyone could talk about (including myself) was the iPhone. But the iPhone wasn’t the only piece of news; Steve Jobs also announced the availability of AppleTV. Clearly it wasn’t on people’s minds and Apple’s stock dipped during the announcement of Apple TV before skyrocketing when Jobs was talking about the iPhone.

The future of television remotes

Nintendo Wii RemoteAs a video game designer and a television user interface designer, I’ve been paying close attention to the Nintendo Revolution Wii with baited breath. And now that Nintendo has shown what they’ve got, I am confident that within the next five to 10 years Nintendo’s controller concept will spill out of the video game arena and become the desired input style for TV-based UIs like televisions and set top boxes. ReplayTV lives on

As the Product Designer of the original ReplayTV DVR, I am happy to see that ReplayTV continues to live on, or at least it’s name, with an announcement about new DVR software for PCs.

I am anxious to see if the software looks or feels anything like the ReplayTV standlone DVR does. I am hoping for the best, but I wouldn’t be suprised if this new software is just another piece of DVR software with the ReplayTV brand name slapped on it.
