Adobe has not published an official time frame for the next release of Director and generally does not disclose details of new releases more than 30 days before a product is expected to ship. However, our current planning assumption is that the next major release of Director will be in the first half of 2007.

Adobe has not yet disclosed a feature list for the next version of Director. We will gather input from the Director user community as we explore opportunities for features to include in the next version.

What are Adobe’s long-term plans for Director?

Director is a market-leading product with a loyal and substantial user base. Adobe will continue to invest in Director and develop new releases targeting current and future innovations in multimedia development. Future versions will be rebranded as “Adobe Director.”

Thanks for highlighting the FAQ posting Hanford. I readily admit that the FAQ isn’t as meaty as folks would like in terms of feature commitments, but at least it provides a solid public statement that a major release of Director and the Shockwave Player is underway and that the company sees value in continuing to invest in the Director/Shockwave ecosystem. This is only a first step among many, look for additional efforts to start rolling out in the coming weeks and months.

    This is such great news!

I especially like the part in the release that reads “We will gather input from the Director user community as we explore opportunities for features to include in the next version.”

If they really follow through with this part, how could we not see an update to Shockwave3D this time around!? Boy, oh boy!
