Battle Stars Wars

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

Mr. Pineapple (AKA Tiki-bot) forwarded me this email he got from what I’m assuming is some random Star Wars Fanboy who tracked his email down:

Dear sir,
can you please make a – resolution (shrunk from wallpaper size) color sketch (not 3d) of the Rebel Force’s Fleet (like the approch to the 2ed Death Star) for me please, i shall give al the credit to you. and can you please make it with the Mon Calamari Starcruser, the escort frigate (the odd shaped one from the end of episove 5), a few Blocade Runners, a bunch of small starfighters (x-wings, a-wings, b-wings, and y-wings, and anything else you find that was in the battle of Endor. Anything that you or one of your buddies comeup with will be greatly appreciated.
Scincerly,
Steven Maloney

It’s an apt request becuase Mr. Pineapple worked for many years at LucasArts doing computer animation for some of their biggest Star Wars games. However, I know he’s not the type of person to just whip out a sketch willy-nilly for anyone who happens to just track down his email address.

So I took it upon myself to do the image for Mr. Maloney. I spent upwards of 25 minutes working on it, perfecting it, and cleaning it up until it was perfect. I signed it not with my own name, but with the name of my Star Wars fan-fiction female space-assassin character Lady Starfire.

I’ve presented it here to show it off to you all. No word yet on what Mr. Maloney thought of it.

Bad UI: Window XP Low battery warning

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

On the two last laptops I’ve owned (both Toshiba) I’ve gotten low battery warnings via the little text-bubble-popup at the bottom-right of the screen. It’s a cool feature that I believe is part of Windows XP, and much less distracting than a modal dialog. However, the wording has always bothered me. It reads something like this:

Low Battery You should change batteries or plug into an outlet to avoid losing your work

The dialog implies that I can pop a battery out and replace it with a new one and not lose my work. I know that there are some scenerios that allow for this, although I can never remember which one it is (Hibernate? Sleep? Suspend?), but the message really does need to be clearer.

Oh well

I finally started a blog. Kind of.

I’ve installed the software, now I just need to figure out what to do with it.

I’m probably going to use this entry to goof around with stuff. Now back to work

Hello.

Hi.

Goodbye.
